Thickfreakness

mattgraupman The Black Keys are such a polished rock 'n' roll machine these days that it's hard to believe that they were ever as rough and scuzzy as they were on "Thickfreakness." This album is 11 slabs of loose, boozy delta blues. Their next album, "Rubber Factory," is really where they solidified their early sound but "Thickfreakness" stands out, if only because never before or since have The Black Keys sounded just so fuckin' dirty. Favorite track: Hold Me in Your Arms.

about

The Black Keys’ second album is a continuous, energised ramble through a stripped down delta-blues. Simultaneous guitar and vocal melodies draw out Dan Auerbach’s perfect bluesman growl, and Patrick Carney’s shuffling rhythms.
